Lindsay Vella, M.F.A.
Lindsay Vella is the Departmental Administrator for Classics, African American Studies, the Division of Interdisciplinary Programs, and the Magid Center for Writing. For her division, department, and programs, she coordinates and manages work processes and administrative procedures and policies, oversees HR processes and provides guidance and advice, manages program budgets and financial data, develops and implements strategic plans, and supervises communications and marketing.
Lindsay has an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and a B.A. in English with a sub-concentration in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan. Her poems have appeared in DIAGRAM, Bat City Review, Black Warrior Review, Tupelo Quarterly, Sugar House Review, and others. She is an editor for Ancient Exchanges, an online literary journal of translations of ancient texts, and a reader for the Examined Life Journal, a literary journal of the Carver College of Medicine that explores the intersections of health and the human condition. She is a member of the Health Humanities at UI working group through the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies.
