Research and Creative Work
The Interdepartmental Studies major was designed to offer flexibility for liberal arts students who felt that the requirements of traditional departmental majors did not meet their academic objectives. These students may seek out faculty members with interdisciplinary interests for suggestions in preparing plans of study or for assistance and mentoring in independent study or honors projects. These faculty members contribute their expertise and their enthusiasm for interdisciplinary projects.

The creation of knowledge and understanding is an exhilarating and never-ending mission—and is at the core of every University of Iowa liberal arts and sciences education.
